All-formats journalist / producer

Hi there! My name is Tulika Bose, and I’m a New-York based multimedia science and tech journalist. Currently, I’m the senior multimedia editor at Scientific American, where I work on and help oversee the cool stuff (science documentaries and podcasts.) Prior to that, I was on the special projects team at NowThis, the #1 brand on social, where I helped develop and concept new shows, helped build a 4+million TIkTok audience, and worked on stories about representation in science. Previously you might have seen me as a host and producer for Mashable, where I made documentaries and explainers at the the intersection of culture, technology, and entertainment. I’ve gotten to do some really important stories in this space — I’ve produced documentaries on hackers that use AI to game Tinder, women fighting back against nonconsensual media on Telegram, and the aftermath of journalist Linda Tirado’s shooting.

I also work to bring untold stories and unique perspectives to all of my work. Prior video work includes award-winning religion reporting for Newsday, stories about powerful women for viral storytelling outlet NowThisHer, and science reporting for BBC.com.

There isn’t anywhere that you can drop me where I won’t find a story. I’ve written about the late Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington’s influence on death metal rocker kids in Nepal for VICE, a Simpson’s Animator’s experience with Turret’s syndrome for Upworthy, and a young vegan entrepreneur’s dream to make healthy food accessible for lower-income communities (later featured in the New York Times daily roundup.) Most importantly— as a reporter who works with social media to source and start conversations — I’m known for making content that people talk about.

I’m a comfortable all-formats reporter (or preditor, as we’re called!) and can shoot video, write, edit, and take photos. (Even help you with your podcast!) I work with the Sony FS7, a7 siii, and all canon DSLR systems. (With some social strategy I learned at Upworthy thrown in to boot!)

I’m a proud graduate of the Columbia School of Journalism, where I was a CJ Starr, Gordon Parks, and SPJ scholarship winner, in addition to being the Vice President of SPJ. (I have a truly horrifying campaign video I will not link here.)

Before making the switch to journalism, I worked in media and international development, where I did public health research and television post-production for an Oprah Winfrey Network documentary series about global philanthropy called Operation Change featuring Bill Clinton, Richard Branson, and Donna Karan.

Contact me if you want to pitch me a story, or if you would like to chat about an awesome story you’re working on. I also like to mentor other people getting into journalism, and am always happy to offer advice.
